Annual Meeting Materials
Sunflower Foundation

SF’s 10th Anniversary Retreat created an opportunity to showcase accomplishments for a small audience — and provide a look for the entire year. H+W created three print pieces that could stand alone but were also designed to be packaged together for the retreat.

H+W made each piece the same height — a tall, narrow format that’s a step up visually from a standard tri-fold size. A printed paper band, with the “10th Year” mark, held them together.

Sunflower Foundation

The 10th Anniversary of the Sunflower Foundation was a fitting time to celebrate the hundreds of walking trails the organization has helped to fund across Kansas. It was time for a map. The brochure helps communicate the importance of trails in encouraging healthy behavior. And, it’s a practical tool with a map and descriptions of every trail.

In honor of the 10th Anniversary, H+W created new graphics and a new section within the Sunflower Foundation’s existing website (which H+W also created). The 10th Anniversary “logo” is designed to reflect the overall brand. The home page features a graphic/photo element that can be customized to include several feature stories. Visitors can click on the link and go directly to the featured section.

In addition to a printed map of the Sunflower Trails, H+W created an interactive online map for the organization’s website. Here, visitors can search by county, or click on an area to find a listing of maps and descriptions.

Annual Report Preview / Direct Mail
Sunflower Foundation

This piece’s brief content provides an intriguing overview of the year, and directs readers to the full report online.

The overall concept of “Growing Season” was created to reinforce the position of the foundation as an agency for change and growth in communities throughout Kansas. Visually, the report harkens back to an old Farmers’ Almanac and the time-tested idea of a best time and place to sow, nurture and harvest.

The theme “Growing Season” worked on multiple levels, including highlighting three leaders, from three different Kansas communities, who participated in the inaugural Sunflower Foundation Advocacy Fellowship class.

This abbreviated annual report preview recognized the accomplishments of highlighted leaders as they tell of their own “season of growth.” The direct mail piece invites recipients to go online for the full feature stories and traditional annual report elements.

Sunflower Foundation

The Sunflower story is much more than facts and data. It’s the story of individuals transforming their communities by creating ways to help improve the health of Kansans. Howerton+White is pleased to continue to build and strengthen the Sunflower Foundation brand. As the foundation grows, communication needs grow, as well.

Consistency is key. H+W continues to focus on key elements of the visual brand — a defining, warm palette; textured paper and layered images; unpretentious and earth-minded materials. Just as importantly, the light is always shining on the communities and people across Kansas, not on the foundation itself.

The foundation’s 10th year afforded unique challenges and opportunities. The goal: look back, celebrate and look forward while always focusing on the end result, and not the organization itself. H+W maintained an outward focus for the group — the marketing pieces became actual tools to help people make healthier choices. A printed map of walking trails locates and describes trails throughout Kansas. Online, an interactive map guides the way. The website continues to expand, offering a unique showcase for individual stories, and providing communities across Kansas the ability to share ideas and receive encouragement in the good work of public health.
